In a notebook of 1888 Nietzsche says: art is the only superior counterforce against all will to negate life — anti-Christian, anti-Buddhist, above all anti-nihilist.
I think every human trait has a biological value. Fear lets you avoid danger and raises the chance of staying alive. Adolescence as revolt helps a group grow difference, and that adds to the conditions for the group to live. And so on.
Then the “biology” of the sense of beauty should be what supports the will to life.
Through the pursuit and cultivation of beauty, human beings widen the senses, become able to tell fine differences among things, and then look for a larger space in which to evolve, so that the will does not starve and collapse.
Whenever life has no taste left, the sky seen from Xinyi is a little better.
